Week 8- Final Summary

The entrepreneurship project has allowed me to start with a simple idea and really develop it over a couple weeks.  After evaluating my posts I can now see how I could improve my entrepreneurship idea.  Firstly, I would unquestionably need to focus on narrowing the amount of information that would be available and sub divide it into different sections to make tennisTIME easier to navigate.  Also, my idea might gain more support if I marketed my idea to all types of sport websites and providers rather than just amongst the tennis world. Although I would get the most response from avid tennis lovers, others sports fans could be interested and willing to use my app.

As a whole, I had a very positive experience with the entrepreneurship project. Everything that I’ve learned so far in IST has been new to me and not so easy to grasp. Many topics that were presented in class were tricky when incorporating into my entrepreneurship idea; however, I think that's what made this project successful. This project really made me use a creative and strategic mindset on how to create a successful entrepreneurship idea.

It was also really intriguing to browse classmate’s ideas. I enjoyed providing helpful feedback on my peer’s blogs. The blogs that I commented on were all extremely interesting. Each idea varied in subject matter and included sports, technology, and entertainment. When commenting on the blogs I tried to imagine how the ideas could take off and tried to provide positive and constructive feedback. I think all three blogs I commented on could be very successful ideas. Finally, I think this project was an undoubtedly worthwhile project that provided the class with a unique twist.

Week 7-Networks

In lecture we learned what networks are and how they are used. For me, it is a confusing subject matter but I understand the main points of it. I don't think that networks would play a huge role in my company however, I will definitely need to do some work in this topic.

Every computer device and website has an IP address. My blog IP address will be able to be accessed by anyone browsing the web. I know that I will need a domain for my website. My domain name will be something related to tennis so that users everywhere will know what my blog is about. When making a domain name I will want to make sure not to have one too similar to existing tennis domains. Making a unique domain name could only help my company.

Week 6- OS & Color

Learning about operating systems provided me with important information pertaining to my company. An important topic we learned about was the forensics of computing. All customer data including credit card numbers and other information will be stored inside tennisTIME computers. As time goes on I will probably need to improve or upgrade these computers. I now know that rather then getting rid of the computers I will need to follow necessary measures to protect the customer data. I would do this by obeying the Department of Defense Standard and destroy my hard drive.

I also know which operating systems I would use for my company now. Since my app is geared towards Apple products such as the iPhone, iTouch, and iPad I would use the Mac OS X operating system. Although many companies use the Unix operating system, I don’t think it would be as useful for my company. I can improve my app more efficiently with the Mac OS X operating system than any other operating system.

When it comes to color, we learned how to use Photoshop; creating color, adjusting brightness levels, basic editing, and other techniques. Color wouldn't play a vital role in my company, however, I could play around with it a little bit. In my free time I could adjust colors displayed on my app, edit pictures, etc.

Week 5- Blog Review

The blog that I researched was http://techcrunch.com/. This blog is very popular and was founded by Michael Arrington in 2005. This website is constantly viewed especially amongst techies and computer lovers, however, it is a great blog for anyone interested in technology and very useful for technological based questions.

Here is a little history about techcrunch. The blog started as web publication that offers technology news and analysis. It also focuses on profiling of startup companies, products, and websites. The company took off quickly and now spans across the entire technological industry. It ranks second according to Technorati (a search blog engine) and is considered one of the leading tech blogs on the internet.

When surfing techcrunch, I thought the most interesting topic was a blog written by Len Jordan. Rather than focusing about technology, this post talked about how to work with your board of directors. The report basically stated that rather then being secretive and defensive about your ideas and strategies be open and willing to work closely with your peers. As a member of different executive boards this post taught me to confide in other members for help. After all executive boards are all working to improve the same company.

Week 4- Input/Output

We recently learned about QR codes or Quick Response Codes. These are bar codes that allow smart phone users to scan the codes redirecting them to a website. I would use QR codes to direct people to my app or a Facebook page providing people with information about my app. This would allow users quick access to my app and would also allow my company to gain recognition and grow.

Voice recognition could be extremely useful to my app. I could integrate voice recognition into my app, providing customers with a voice activated search option. This option could be extremely useful and would allow customers to easily navigate my app. They would be able to search a player, matches, equipment, or anything else at the tip of their tongue. Although my app would run smoothly with a simple search box, voice recognition could be an innovative alternative making my company unique.

Along with interactive scores, player bios, and equipment, tennisTIME also provides professional advice and videos on how to improve your game. With the use of RFID I can easily show how to improve your groundstroke, volleys, and serves. I can place chips on tennis professionals’ rackets, which would closely monitor how they hit every shot. Users would be able to watch these videos and vastly improve their game.

Week 3- Hardware

In order for my company to become successful it is imperative that a strong stable hardware is utilized. Having knowledge of how computers operate will be very beneficial. When tennisTIME explodes I will need to purchase the proper equipment to keep my company on top. With my newfound knowledge of hardware I can now make these choices about investing in new equipment.

Identity theft will also be an important factor in the success of my company. Since my app will to be purchased using a credit card, it is essential that I provide proper means to protect customer information. Users will have to enter security codes to prevent hackers from accessing information. I will make sure users do not have to enter personal information, SSN’s, account numbers, or pin numbers to ensure customer security.

Now that I am educated on hardware and the vast types of equipment available, I can easily upgrade my company’s current systems. Instead of buying new computers I will buy RAM, adaptor cards, or disk drives. I can now make sure that they are compatible with my processor.
