Week 1- Social Media

My idea for my entrepreneurship project is to make an application for Apple products that would allow users to follow their favorite tennis professionals. Currently, there are websites and applications that allow users to access live scores and matches, however, the tennisTIME application would be a different service. Customers would have to pay a fee to download the application giving them full insight to their favorite players life on and off the court. They would be able to watch live matches, access players bios, history, favorite gear, and many other facts. The crucial difference is that tennisTIME integrates the pro's social life, daily quotes, take on matches, as well as anything else the pro's take part in off the court, providing users with a 360 degree view of their favorite stars.

I could use social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook to advertise my new product. Since tennisTIME will be following the lives of tennis players, Twitter will play a crucial role when dealing with the players social life off the court. Social media will also play an imperative role when measuring customer opinions. Through the usage of social media, I could use customer feedback to tweak my website and find out what the customers want to hear more and less of. Also, Facebook could be utilized to create a informative page, boosting the popularity of my product amongst the sports world.

Social Media will also play a vital role internally. As tennisTIME gains popularity, I will need to employ more individuals. I will utilize Twitter to post job availabilities and eventually hire avid tennis followers. Though social media I can precisely advertise and mold my product into becoming a huge success.

  1. I think it is good that you are niching your idea to only one sport. TO many times people try to create apps that do everything, yet they probably don't do it effectively and ultimately don't serve a market because they are not really extraordinary at any one feature. Good idea.

  2. I like this idea. I can definitely visualize an app with the players names and all that, and linking it to social media would make it even better. If you had a "news" section of your application, you could have an option to "Post to Twitter" right from the app. The problem is, would you have coverage of every single player? And how would you manage that? The tennis world has a lotttt of players.

  3. I agree with Orange Slice Sports. The tennis world does have a lot of players, would you start out with just following the Top 20 or so? This would allow you to have a 'test-run' so-to-speak. Also, because of the high access to the Tennis pro, would you have to pay the player at all. Would this be contract based? Or would you just use material that is already accessible on the internet and just use the app as an encyclopedia of sorts?

  4. This is a great idea if you are fond of tennis. With an app centralized to only Tennis people can get the scores and updates. Maybe the app could connect with Twitter in not just advertising your product but connecting with pro tennis players twitters so you can always see their tweets as well.

  5. Interesting idea, it would be cool to do with other sports as well not just tennis. I like Petes idea to connect the app with twitter.
